The notorious gas guzzler will operate on bolts and volts, with a 350+ mile range and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2020\/10\/20\/21525290\/hummer-ev-electric-truck-gmc-price-specs-range\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">other cool tech-enabled features<\/a>. The new truck will rival the upcoming Tesla Cybertruck when it goes on sale in 2023\u00a0<a style=\"font-family: var(--font-family); font-size: var(--font-size-lg); font-weight: var(--font-weight-normal);\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/04\/03\/gm-unveils-electric-hummer-suv-topping-110000-.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">for a whopping $110,000.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is hard to ignore\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sustainablereview-com.preview-domain.com\/solar-to-replace-coal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">solar&#8217;s upward trend<\/a>\u00a0in energy markets.\u00a0As marketing for renewable-powered machines shift toward mainstream buyers, combustion engine vehicles may fade of fashion.<\/p>\n<p>That transition may be take years to manifest. It got me thinking, is it time to make the switch to electric vehicles?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Benefit of electric vehicles:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Lower carbon footprint&#8230; social impact \u2713<\/li>\n<li>Lower maintenance costs&#8230; convenience factor \u2713<\/li>\n<li>Tax credits&#8230; financial incentive \u2713<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Cost of electric vehicles:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><b>EVs require minerals<\/b> like cobalt and lithium to function. Mineral mining is a tough industry with poor standards in developing countries like Bolivia and Chile. Organizations are working to change that.<\/li>\n<li>Electric vehicles have a <b>limited driving range<\/b> compared to their gas cousins. You may find yourself charging up more than usual.<\/li>\n<li><b>High sticker prices<\/b>: The average price of a new electric vehicle is almost double the price of a gas car.<\/li>\n<li><b>Limited amount of charging stations<\/b>: this is a tricky one, because there are still more charging stations per EV on the road than there are gas stations for gas cars. You can save as much as $7500 in taxes depending on where you live.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2>Cost of electric vehicles<\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h4>Mineral mining<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>The demand for EV batteries will spike the demand for minerals like cobalt and lithium. These resources can be found in areas of the world like Bolivia, Chile and the Democratic Republic of Congo.<\/p>\n<\/li><li><p>Mineral extraction is a tricky business, and can potentially lead to other environmental and human-rights violations.<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Limited driving range<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>No, <a style=\"font-family: var(--font-family); font-size: var(--font-size-lg); font-weight: var(--font-weight-normal);\" href=\"https:\/\/sustainablereview-com.preview-domain.com\/golf-sustainability-sport-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">not the golf kind<\/a><span style=\"background-color: var(--body-bg-color); color: var(--text-color); font-family: var(--font-family); font-size: var(--font-size-lg); font-weight: var(--font-weight-normal);\">. The average cost of all new cars increased by 2%.<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Spotty charging infrastructure<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>There are about 10,000 electric charging stations, compared to 150,000 gas stations.<\/p>\n<\/li><li><p>Still yet, there is a higher ratio of charging stations to EVs then gas pumps to gas cars. The numbers don&#8217;t lie.<\/p>\n<p>With that said, literally all major automakers&#8230; and governments&#8230; are betting on the EV market. Current setbacks associated with EVs, like limited access to charging stations or high sticker prices, will likely dissipate over the next decade.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to get ahead of the curve and invest in a cleaner future, I&#8217;d recommend going electric today.
