Whether the stock price is up or down, companies can start building a trustworthy reputation.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>It is also important to note, that the exchange itself is incentivized to support the long-term success of the companies it lists. The looming pressures of short-termism in public markets (and the antiquated IPO process) cause companies to go public late, if at all. This hurts mostly retail investors. These investors, without the means to invest in the private sector, miss out on early stage growth.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/~\/media\/mckinsey\/featured%20insights\/Long%20term%20Capitalism\/Where%20companies%20with%20a%20long%20term%20view%20outperform%20their%20peers\/MGI-Measuring-the-economic-impact-of-short-termism.ashx\">McKinsey study on the economic impact of short-termism<\/a> notes that if all US companies had employed long-term strategies, they would have added $1 trillion to U.S. GDP and an additional five million jobs between 2001 and 2015.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>This estimate is supported by findings that economic earnings for long-term firms grew on average 81% more than other firms. Economic earnings measure the difference between revenues and all costs including opportunity costs.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>According to the study, these firms also spent 50% more on R&amp;D and increased their R&amp;D spending throughout the financial crisis, a period in which many companies succumb to short-term market pressures.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2><strong>An inspiration to future generations<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>There are many potential economic and societal benefits of an <a href=\"https:\/\/sustainablereview-com.preview-domain.com\/amsterdam-doughnut-model\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">economy filled with long-term companies<\/a>.
