Wemoto: A Brand Committed to Sustainability

At Wemoto, we believe that taking care of our planet should be a top priority. That’s why we have implemented various measures to ensure that our brand operates sustainably and responsibly. Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our “Planet” rating, which evaluates brands based on their environmental policies in their supply chains.

Our “Planet” Rating

Wemoto has been rated as “Good” in our “Planet” rating. This rating is based on several factors that influence our score. Firstly, we use a medium proportion of lower-impact materials, including organic cotton. These materials have a reduced environmental impact compared to traditional materials, making them a more sustainable choice.

In addition, we also limit our production runs to minimize waste. By producing only what is necessary, we can avoid excess inventory and reduce the amount of waste generated. However, we acknowledge that there is room for improvement when it comes to packaging. Currently, there is no evidence to suggest that we take action to minimize our packaging, which is a significant driver of plastic waste.

While we strive to use lower-impact materials, we recognize that more can be done to reduce our energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. Although there is no evidence to indicate that we are actively taking further action in these areas, we are committed to exploring and implementing initiatives that will help us reduce our environmental footprint.

Our “People” Rating

At Wemoto, we believe that workers’ rights are of utmost importance. Our “People” rating assesses brands’ policies and practices regarding child labour, living wages, and gender equality. Unfortunately, we have been rated as “Not Good Enough” in this category.

While we partly trace our supply chain, including the final production stage, we do not have a Code of Conduct in place. This means that there is insufficient evidence to ensure that workers in our supply chain are treated fairly and paid living wages. Although we claim to audit some of our supply chain, we have not specified the percentage of supply chain audited, leaving room for improvement in transparency and accountability.

Our “Animals” Rating

Animal welfare is an important aspect of sustainability, and we take it seriously at Wemoto. While we have been rated as “It’s a Start” in our “Animals” rating, we have measures in place to ensure responsible sourcing of animal-derived products.

There is currently no evidence to suggest that we have an animal welfare policy. However, we make conscious choices when it comes to the materials we use. While we use wool, we do not use materials such as leather, down, fur, angora, exotic animal skin, or exotic animal hair that often have ethical concerns surrounding their sourcing.

Overall Rating

Based on all publicly available information we have reviewed, we are proud to rate Wemoto as “It’s a Start” overall. While there are areas where we can improve, we remain committed to sustainability and are constantly seeking ways to enhance our practices.

At Wemoto, we believe that sustainability is not just a trend; it is a way of life. We are dedicated to making a positive impact on the planet and ensuring that our brand operates ethically and responsibly. With continued efforts and a commitment to improvement, we strive to be a leader in sustainable fashion.
