Kitikate Sustainability Rating Evaluation
Our “Planet” rating evaluates brands based on the environmental policies in their supply chains, from carbon emissions and wastewater to business models and product circularity. Here we rate Kitikate “It’s a Start”.
Environmental Impact
Kitikate uses a high proportion of lower-impact materials including Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified organic cotton. While it uses lower impact materials, there’s no evidence it’s taking further action to reduce its energy use or greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, there’s no evidence it minimizes textile waste in its supply chain.
Workers’ Rights
Workers’ rights are central to our “People” rating, which assesses brands’ policies and practices on everything from child labor to living wages and gender equality. In the case of Kitikate, much of its supply chain is certified by Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified organic cotton. It also traces most of its supply chain. However, there’s no evidence it has a Code of Conduct in place, and it doesn’t ensure workers are paid living wages in its supply chain.
Animal Welfare
Brands’ animal welfare policies and how well they trace their animal-derived products are the focus of our “Animals” rating. Kitikate receives a “Good” rating in this category as it doesn’t appear to use animal-derived materials, though it doesn’t claim to be a vegan brand.
Overall Rating
Based on all publicly available information we’ve reviewed, Kitikate receives a “Good” overall rating. While the brand shows positive efforts in using lower-impact materials and focusing on animal welfare, there are areas where improvement is needed, such as reducing energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, and ensuring fair wages for workers in the supply chain.
