Our “Planet” rating evaluates brands based on the environmental policies in their supply chains, from carbon emissions and wastewater to business models and product circularity. When it comes to The White Briefs, we rate them as “It’s a Start”. This rating is influenced by a few factors, such as their use of a high proportion of lower-impact materials, including organic cotton. While they do use lower impact materials in their products, there is currently no evidence suggesting that they are actively taking further action to reduce their energy use or greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, there is no evidence to suggest that they minimize textile waste in their supply chain.

When it comes to assessing brands’ policies and practices on workers’ rights, we use our “People” rating. In the case of The White Briefs, we rate them as “It’s a Start”. This rating is influenced by the fact that much of their supply chain is certified by Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified organic cotton, particularly in the second and first production stages. They also trace most of their supply chain. However, there is no evidence to indicate that they have a Code of Conduct in place, and there is no evidence to suggest that they ensure workers are paid living wages in their supply chain.

Brands’ animal welfare policies and their ability to trace their animal-derived products are the focus of our “Animals” rating. In the case of The White Briefs, we rate them as “Good”. While they do not appear to use animal-derived materials, they do not claim to be a vegan brand either.

Based on all the publicly available information we have reviewed, we rate The White Briefs as “Good” overall. While there are areas for improvement, such as taking further action to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, implementing a Code of Conduct, and ensuring workers are paid living wages, they have made positive strides in their use of lower-impact materials and their focus on animal welfare. It is important for brands to continue to improve and make conscious choices that positively impact the planet, people, and animals.
