BUFF
Buff is a brand that focuses on sustainability and environmental responsibility in its supply chain. Our “Planet” rating assesses brands based on their environmental policies, and BUFF has been rated as “Good.” This rating is influenced by several factors, such as their use of lower-impact and recycled materials. By incorporating these materials into their products, BUFF helps to limit the use of chemicals, water, and wastewater in their supply chain.
Another positive aspect of BUFF’s environmental approach is their use of renewable energy in their supply chain. By utilizing renewable energy sources, BUFF is able to reduce their climate impacts and contribute to a more sustainable future. However, there is currently no evidence to suggest that BUFF takes significant measures to minimize textile waste in their supply chain.
When it comes to workers’ rights, BUFF has been rated as “It’s a Start” in our “People” rating. This rating takes into account factors such as the country where the final production stage occurs and the brand’s code of conduct. Most of BUFF’s final production stage happens in Spain, which is considered a medium risk country for labor abuse. However, BUFF does have a code of conduct that covers the ILO Four Fundamental Freedoms principles.
Additionally, BUFF partially traces their supply chain, including the final and some of the second production stages. This transparency is a positive step towards ensuring worker rights and accountability in their supply chain. However, there is currently no evidence to suggest that BUFF ensures workers are paid living wages throughout their supply chain.
When it comes to animal welfare, BUFF has been rated as “Good” in our “Animals” rating. While there is no evidence of a formal animal welfare policy, BUFF does state that they source wool from non-mulesed sheep. This commitment to humane sourcing is commendable. Furthermore, BUFF does not appear to use leather, down, fur, angora, exotic animal skin, or exotic animal hair in their products, further supporting their positive animal welfare rating.
Overall, based on the publicly available information we have reviewed, we rate BUFF as “Good.” This rating takes into account their environmental policies, their commitment to workers’ rights, and their positive animal welfare practices. While there are areas for improvement, such as minimizing textile waste and ensuring living wages, BUFF shows a dedication to sustainability and is taking steps in the right direction.
